Sahul Energy Supports Blue Heelers Rugby Club’s Mother’s Day Youth Empowerment Program

Sahul Energy has reaffirmed its commitment to youth development, community empowerment, and promoting positive social change through its support of the Blue Heelers Rugby Club Mother’s Day Youth Empowerment Program held in Bomana.
On Saturday, 9 May 2026, Blue Heelers Rugby Club, in partnership with the National Capital District Commission Family, Gender Equality & Women’s Empowerment (Family & GEWE) Branch and Sahul Energy, successfully hosted the program at the Correctional Service College Gym under the theme: “Respect Her – Honor Your Mother.”
At least 100 people attended the event, including approximately 60 mothers, their children, and youths from the Blue Heelers Rugby Club.
The program brought together families and young people from the Bomana countryside communities in a meaningful celebration focused on promoting respect, discipline, positive behaviour change, and awareness on ending violence against women and girls through community engagement.
Speaking on behalf of Sahul Energy, Managing Director Martin Tambiawi said the company was proud to support initiatives that invest in young people and strengthen communities.
“Sahul Energy believes true energy comes from people. By supporting our youths through sport, mentorship, and positive community programs, we are helping build respectful leaders, stronger families, and safer communities for Papua New Guinea’s future,” Mr Tambiawi said.
“Energy drives progress. In the same way, our youths are the driving force of Papua New Guinea’s future. Through sport, mentorship, and community programs, Sahul Energy and Blue Heelers Rugby Club are helping channel the energy of young people into leadership, discipline, respect, and positive change.”
Mr Tambiawi said Sahul Energy recognises the important role sport and community-based programs play in guiding young people toward positive lifestyles and creating safer and more united communities.
The event also created an important opportunity for youths and mothers to openly engage, learn from one another, and strengthen family and community relationships through positive conversations, mentorship, and sport.
President of Blue Heelers Rugby Club, Ase Boas, said the initiative was designed to teach young people, especially young boys, the value of respect and responsibility within their homes and communities.
He said the club has been operating community youth programs for the past five years with limited outside support and was grateful for the support now being provided by Sahul Energy and the NCDC Family & GEWE Branch in empowering youths through sport and mentorship.
“Our Mother’s Day Youth Empowerment Program was more than a celebration — it was a platform to educate young people on the importance of respect, inclusion, and the role they play in ending violence against women and girls,” Mr Boas said.
The partnership between Sahul Energy, NCDC Family & GEWE Branch, and Blue Heelers Rugby Club highlights the importance of collaboration between the private sector, government, and community organisations in creating opportunities that positively impact young people and promote lasting social change.
